KUCHING: The Brooke family, who are here in Kuching for three weeks as guests of the Sarawak government for the state’s 50th anniversary celebrations, have extended an invitation to all in Sarawak to attend the memorial service for the late Rajah Muda Anthony Brooke, whose cremated remains will be interred in Kuching on Sept 21.

Honorary-Secretary of The Brooke Heritage Trust and Anthony’s grandson, Jason Brooke said the memorial service will commence at St Thomas’ Cathedral, Kuching at 2pm, and was expected to finish around 3pm.

“The British and New Zealand High Commissioners are expected to attend, along with members of the community from all faiths and backgrounds. In the spirit of Anthony, this is to be an open and inclusive invitation to all who would like to attend and pay their last respects.

“Anthony Brooke, the last Rajah Muda of Sarawak, a prominent leader of the Sarawak Independence Movement, died on March 2, 2011. It was his wish that his ashes be interred in Sarawak soil, a wish that will be fulfilled on the evening of Sept 21,” he told Bernama, here.
