Labourer charged with reckless driving and causing death of four people

KUALA LUMPUR: A construction labourer pleaded not guilty at the Ampang Magistrate’s Court, here, on charges of driving a Proton Satria car recklessly and causing the death of four people travelling in a Perodua Viva in an accident on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2), four months ago.

Masrufi Sain, 66, was charged with reckless driving which caused the death of Hasbullah Abdul Ghani, 25, Hasbullah’s wife, Nurul Intan Syahida Nordin, 21, Hasbullah’s cousin Tengku Ahmad Faiz Tengku Mohmad, 27, and Asma Ismail, 22, on the MRR2, at 5.40pm on May 19.

He was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 1999) which carries a jail sentence of up to 10 years or maximum fine of RM20,000, as well as possible suspension of driving licence, upon conviction.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor S.Purnima offered bail of RM15,000 with one surety as the offence was serious and caused the death of four individuals. — Bernama
