KUCHING: The decomposing body of an Australian permanent resident was found in an apartment complex unit in Tabuan Jaya yesterday.
The deceased, identified as Daniel Wang, 54, was discovered around 11.30am when an occupant at an adjacent unit complained to several cleaners of an unbearable stench coming from Wang’s unit.
The cleaners, one of whom said she had detected a faint rotting odour coming from the same unit on Wednesday, but thought nothing of it, then notified security guards about the complaint, leading them to contact the police.
A team from the Tabuan Jaya police station subsequently entered the unit and discovered Wang’s decomposing body face down and wrapped in a comforter in bed.
Judging from the state of decomposition, the victim was believed to have been dead for up to a week prior to the discovery.
A source disclosed that Wang was originally from Sungai Petani in Kedah and had been staying alone in the rented unit since December last year.
Forensics personnel were called in to investigate the scene before the body was sent to Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem.
The case has been classified as sudden death pending the outcome of the post-mortem.
In a separate case, a 24-year-old mechanic who was seriously injured in a freak accident at a quarry in Paku, Bau on
Thursday, succumbed to his injuries at Sarawak General Hospital here.
Cassey Suhen of Kampung Suba Bandar in Bau died from serious head injuries sustained when a wheel loader he was on, slipped down a hill slope and landed on its roof.
The incident had also claimed the life of the wheel loader’s operator, Thomas Johin, 41.
