LDP members demand to know future direction of party

KOTA KINABALU: Sulaman LDP members want to know what those who are tussling for the party’s leadership have in mind for LDP’s future.

According to divisional chief Jackson Chang, the Sulaman LDP members were not interested in the ‘war of words’ between embattled president Datuk VK Liew and the leaders he had suspended.

Chang in a statement yesterday said it was now clear that the party elections in October would be between two factions, one led by Liew and the other by suspended deputy president Datuk Chin Su Phin.

“We in LDP are interested to know only what are these two groups’ policies and directions for the party. We are not interested to listen to their continued squabbling and finger pointing in public.

“It is time that they should declare their stand to the members and the public their stand on many issues. This will help the delegates to decide who to vote in the party’s election.

“We, in Sulaman Division, like to know foremost what are these candidates’ stand in respect of the statement made by Datuk Chin Su Phin in 2010 that ‘he and LDP cannot work with the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Sri Musa Aman,” Chang stressed.

According to Chang, his research showed that the statement was made after Chin attended a Sabah BN meeting in August 2010 on behalf of Liew who was then on official visit in China.

Chin, he claimed was accompanied by Teo in the meeting at that time.

“The answer to the above question is very important to LDP members because the answer will point toward a future direction for LDP. The answer will also decide if LDP will stay in BN or not. This is critical for LDP members, many of whom have been appointed into government positions.

“It is only fair that the two partnerships of Liew and Pang, Teo and Chin make a public statement on this very important question as soon as possible. They must remember that the members have every right to know where they stand on this particular issue.

“We in Sulaman demand an answer,” Chang said.
