PEKAN: A man suspected to be involved in a theft case was injured after being shot when he tried to attack police with a parang in Jalan Dara in the Felda Chini area here at 5.45pm on Saturday.
Pekan police chief Supt Yahaya Othman said police had earlier received a tip-off that the suspect, aged 45, was stealing fresh fruit bunches and despatched three officers to the location.
“When the policemen cornered him, he became agressive and charged at them with a parang.
“Police had no choice but to shoot him in self-defence. The shots hit him in the abdomen and chest,” he said. — Bernama
