Slashed for helping friend retrieve handphone

KUCHING: A 40-something man was slashed on the chest with a sharp object in a gang fight at RPR Batu Kawa early yesterday morning.

The fight allegedly broke out when the victim tried to help a friend get back his stolen handphone.

Prior to the incident, a friend of the victim was on the way home on a motorcycle when another man stopped him and asked for a ride to a nearby area.

The 15-year-old dropped the man off not far from the victim’s house.

The man took out a knife and shoved it at the teenager, demanding money but he surrendered his mobile phone instead before going to the victim’s house to seek help.

They went in a group of seven to look for the man and found him with another three persons armed with parang, knuckle duster and wooden club.

There was a heated argument which ended up with the fight, during which the victim was injured and sent to hospital by friends.

In another incident, two men were seriously injured when attacked by a group of 10 persons near Batu Kawa MJC Saturday night. They were rushed to hospital.

In the incident that occurred around midnight, the 19-year-old victim and his 22-year-old uncle were about to go back from MJC fun fair when they were stopped by the group.

The 19-year-old victim suffered facial injuries when slashed with the knuckle duster while the uncle was injured on the head.

The motive for the attack was unclear. Both were sent to hospital by ambulance and the Civil Defence Department.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl was admitted to hospital after she was found unconscious from an alleged overdose.

The girl was believed to have consumed a packet of medicine without prescription before she was found unconscious by her family at their house in Desa Wira. She was rushed to hospital.

All the patients are in stable condition.
