Federal Court judge leads recipients of medals, awards from Agong at Istana Negara

KUALA LUMPUR:  Federal Court judge Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop  headed the list of 174 recipients of awards and medals from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah at Istana Negara here yesterday.

He received the Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) award, which carries the title ‘Tan Sri’, that was bestowed on him by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in conjunction with the ruler’s official birthday celebration last June.

A total of seven people were bestowed the award.

Besides Ahmad, the others are Special Adviser on Religion to the Prime Minister Tan Sri Professor Dr Abdullah Md Zin, the Prime Minister’s Adviser Tan Sri Othman Abd Razak, ABN Media Group executive chairman Tan Sri Ketheeswaran Kanagaratnam, lawyer Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Shafee Md Abdullah, Landmarks Berhad director Tan Sri Zakaria Abdul Hamid and Sapura Group president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin.

Also present at the ceremony yesterday was Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah.

Five others received the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) award, which carries the “Datuk” title.

They are Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Hamim Samuri, Director-General of the Economic Planning Unit at the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Rahmat Bivi Yusoff, Defence Ministry’s Commander of Air Operations Datuk Ackbal Abdul Samad, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Director-General Datuk Dr Awang Sariyan and Chin Hin Group of Companies executive chairman Datuk Chiau Beng Teik.

There were also three recipients of the PJN (Honorary) award, which also carried the title ‘Datuk’.

They are International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation chief executive officer Datuk Rifaat Ahmed Abdel Karim, Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Tunisia Datuk Noureddine Ayed and Honorary Consul of Malaysia In Christchurch, New Zealand, Datuk Mark James Stewart.

Meanwhile, two people received the Panglima Setia Diraja, which also carries the ‘Datuk’ title and the recipients are Cardiologist Specialist at the Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital Brigadier-General Datuk Dr Mohd Norazmi Mohd Yasin and Subang Air Base Commander General Datuk Romlee Yahaya.

Four people received the Johan Mangku Negara award, Johan Setia Mahkota (nine recipients), Johan Setia Diraja (two), Kesatria Mangku Negara (29) and Ahli Mangku Negara (50).

Sixty others were awarded the Pingat Pangkuan Negara, while another three people were awarded the Pingat Bentara Setia Diraja. — Bernama
