‘Klik Dengan Bijak’ lands students the big prize

KUCHING: A video entitled ‘Klik Dengan Bijak’ produced by students of SMK Luar Bandar No. 1 Sibu was adjudged the first-prize winner of Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) statelevel ‘Creative Youth League’ competition.

The video, depicting the lives of three rural students embracing the Internet and technology, earns the students RM5,000 and a digital camera of each for the four-member team.

With the win they will represent the state at the national-level competition to be held at a later date.

Each state will be represented by a team.

Meanwhile, SMKA Tun Ahmad Zaidi of Kuching with their video ‘Panduan Penggunaan Internet’ and SMK Belaga Kapit (Kapten Klik) came in second and third respectively.

They took home RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively and a digital camera for each of the team members.

Earlier in her speech, the head of MCMC Broadband Management Department, Nor Akmar Shah Minan, said the competition, which entered its third year was aimed at exposing the creative side of students through the usage of multimedia.

“We cannot deny the fact that the industry has its role in generating the national economy.

“In fact, the government is always ready to assist those keen to delve into the multimedia business.

” She added that the development of applications through smart phones was a new growing segment and should be given due attention.

“Teachers, especially, should tap this potential as software developers can now tailor educational application for classroom session.

“This is possible as such application can be sold online,” she added.

Meanwhile, MCMC (Sarawak region) chief Adiman Ajem also spoke.

He said that 44 community broadband centres had been set up while another 27 others were coming up.

“MCMC also has embarked on the ‘Kampung Tanpa Wayar’ project at over 1,000 locations across the state.

” Adiman said since 2012, MCMC Sarawak had conducted over 300 awareness programmes involving students of schools and higher learning institutions and staff of the government and private sectors.
