KLUANG: The Defence Ministry plans to introduce comprehensive measures to prevent incidents of fighting at National Service (NS) training camps nationwide.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, said they included installing closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) at the camps.

The ministry also welcomes other suggestions and is gathering information on possible measures that could be taken, he told reporters after a gathering with Johor Wanita Umno at Dataran Tasik here yesterday.

Also present was Wanita Umno leader Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

Hishammuddin, who is incumbent Umno vice-president, said this when asked on the death of a NS trainee, Muhammad Suhaimi Norhamidi, at the Pinggiran Pelangi camp in Muadzam Shah, Rompin, recently.

Muhammad Suhaimi was found unconscious in the bathroom at the camp at 12.05am last Monday and confirmed dead at the Muadzam Shah Hospital about an hour later.

Following his death, three trainees have been detained to facilitate investigation.

A post-mortem result showed that Muhammad Suhaimi suffered internal bleeding due to blunt force trauma on the head. — Bernama
