RM266,705 fake Adidas, Samsung products seized

KOTA KINABALU: Numerous fake Adidas and Samsung items worth some RM266,705 were seized by the Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Affairs Department in two separate raids on five premises here recently.

Its state deputy chief enforcement officer, Balwant Singh s/o Pritam Singh said, the raids were made based on intelligence gathered from a week of surveillances with representatives from Adidas Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Samsung Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

He said the first raid was made on September 12 when enforcement personnel raided two warehouses in Inanam and Penampang.

“In the first raid, enforcement officers confiscated numerous fake Adidas and Nike items, namely, 1,780 Chelsea jerseys, 107 pairs of Adidas and Nike shoes, 550 Adidas and Nike sling bags and 425 Adidas and Nike back packs worth some RM69,430,” he told reporters at the department’s warehouse in Kolombong here yesterday.

In the second raid, which was made within a week, enforcement personnel once again raided three premises in Asia City and Damai Plaza, Luyang on September 19. Among the items confiscated were 307 units of Bluetooth headsets, 2,085 units of handphone batteries, 857 units of handphone chargers, 133 USB data cables and 63 travel adapters worth RM197,275.

Balwant said no arrests were made in any of the raids and all the fake items have been taken to the department’s warehouse for investigations under Section 8 of the Trade Description Act 2011.

He said the department would continue to monitor and carry out such raids from time to time and urged the public to give their full cooperation to the department by providing information of such activity through the hotline at 1-800-886-800.
