KUCHING: Fifteen boys from The Salvation Army Kuching Boys Home now have a new look after they were invited for a free haircut at Artist Hairdressing Salon in Kuching Sentral here yesterday.

The boys, aged eight to 19, arrived at the salon at 10am together with their superintendent Major Mary Ng.

The salon’s managing director Jerico Siew said apart from the charity haircut, they also contributed RM888 to the home.

“We are doing this charity activity to fulfil our social responsibility. We have previously did free hair cut for Green Ribbon Association Kuching, Sarawak Society for the Blind, and Association of Welfare of Mentally Retarded Children Sarawak (Perkata),” he said, adding they are planning to do more charity haircuts soon.

Major Ng said she appreciated the salon’s kind gesture to provide free haircuts for the boys because the boys’ hair needed to be trimmed regularly.

She said there were other hair dressers providing the same free service, and she expressed her gratitude towards those who remember the less privileged people.

“We appreciate those who show they care by providing free service to us. Although they are boys, they too would like to have nice hair styles to look good,” she said.

Currently, there are 33 boys at the home.

Meanwhile, Siew said the Artist Hairdressing Academy outlet at ST3 shopping complex is now taking in new students for its October intake.

Those who enrol will enjoy 30 per cent discount on course fee and the promotion expires end of October.

Established since 2006, Artist Hairdressing now has three outlets in the city, one each at One Jaya, ST3 and Kuching Sentral.

They are planning to open another two new outlets next year.
