Mercy Malaysia sending another medical team to Syria next month

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercy Malaysia is sending another medical team and various assistance in a humanitarian aid mission to Syria next month.

Its president, Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus, said Mercy Malaysia had sent at least six teams, including two surgical teams, to the Jordan border since early this year.

“We have sent three teams to the Turkey border and through Turkey, two of the teams went to Syria,” he told reporters after the launch of the Syria Media Prima Berhad Humanitarian Fund by Perdana Global Peace Foundation president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad here yestesrday.

Dr Ahmad Faizal said there were an estimated two million Syrian refugees, most of them children, at the borders of Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt and Iraq.

At least RM5 million is needed to implement various programmes to help the Syrian people, he added. — Bernama
