Chinese chamber can play role in school devt – SUCCC

KOTA KINABALU: Tambunan Chinese Chamber of Commerce can play a role in the development of the local community, including the primary schools in Tambunan.

Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce president Datuk Seri Panglima Gan Sau Wah said Chinese chambers should extend their assistance to those in need.

He said this when meeting committee members of the Tambunan Chinese Chamber of Commerce headed by Lt Kol (K) Dato’ Oi Thiam Beng here yesterday. The chamber was established recently and has around 20 members at present.

The chamber aims to achieve several objectives, including to recruit more members, create more business opportunities for members, carry out social responsibilities, as well as support and assist Chinese culture and education activities.

Gan also urged the chamber members to cooperate and support Oi.

“An association does not need a lot of members, more importantly is to cooperate and do your job.”

It was learnt that there was only a primary school with around 300 students in Tambunan and the chamber could play a role in the development of the school.

Gan added that the upcoming SUCCC Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sept 30 would include granting Tambunan Chinese Chamber of Commerce the approval to join SUCCC.

He reiterated that the aim of SUCCC was to unite the Chinese business community in fighting for the common interest from the government.

Also present at the meeting were SUCCC secretary general Datuk Ling Tiong Chai and treasurer general Datuk Yap Yiw Sin.
