JAIP detains imam suspected of practising Shiite teachings

ROMPIN: An iman suspected to be a follower of Shiite teachings was detained by the Pahang Islamic Religious Department at the staff quarters of Ladang RISDA Pekoti Timur near here Friday night.

JAIP enforcement chief  Ahmad Raffli Abdul Malek said the 64-year-old suspect was believed to be a Shiite practitioner since six years ago.

In the raid, the enforcement team also seized various

materials used by Shiite followers, he told reporters here yesterday.

Pahang banned the propagation of Shiite teachings on Sept 12. The suspect, if charged under state Islamic laws, is liable to be fined a maximum of RM3,000 or jailed two years, if convicted. — Bernama
