BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei International Airport is launching its Asean Immigration Lane tomorrow, which will be an added convenience for passport holders from Asean member countries arriving here, the Department of Immigration and National Registration (JIPK) announced in a press release yesterday, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The new lane will be open for passport holders from Asean member countries arriving in Brunei for the purpose of tourism and official matters.

Although the official launch is tomorrow, the new lane has already been in operation on a pilot basis since early September. PHOTOS: COURTESY OF JIPK

This is one of JIPK’s efforts in diversifying and enhancing its services to members of the public, especially visitors arriving at the Brunei International Airport. It is also part of our commitment together with other Asean countries in supporting the vision of Asean leaders in realising the Asean Economic Community (AEC), the press release added.

Currently, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand have already implemented such initiative.

The Asean Immigration Lane will also serve in addition to existing lanes for Brunei citizens, foreigners and diplomatic passport holders.

Although the official launch is tomorrow, the new lane has already been in operation on a pilot basis since early September.

JIPK said statistics from 2010-2012 indicated that about 42.29% to 44.49% from the total one million visitors to Brunei annually come from Asean member countries.
