Its chairman Tan Sri Mahmood Adam said the figure from the state for the whole of last year was 105,826.

“Bumiputeras in Sarawak who registered with SPA from January to August this year were 98,872, as compared to 53,737 last year.

Mahmood said this in his speech during a recent interactive session at SMK Sacred Heart here with heads of federal departments, statutory bodies, associations, non-governmental organisations and counselling teachers from Sibu District.

He said nationwide nearly 2.5 million people registered with SPA from June 1 last year to Aug 31 this year.

“We do not impose any limitations on job applicants. Presently, there is no limitation on the number of posts to be applied for by candidates through SPA81 form. Thus far, 741,619 candidates had applied for more than five posts.

“The validity of the registration has been extended from one year to five, and this involved registration by 978,441 candidates.”

He said SPA had abolished the One Step Lower policy, which allowed a candidate with a degree to apply for a post meant for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) holders.

On another matter, he said his office would be making 58 transformations to its services to benefit the people.

“Among the transformations is the holding of interactive sessions. From June last year till Aug this year, SPA organised 17 interactive sessions involving about 3,000 participants.

“SPA briefing session to schools will go on to promote the functions of SPA and career opportunities in the public service to instil interest among the public towards jobs in the public sector.”
