MIRI: Miri’s team showed outstanding performance to emerge overall champion in the tug-of-war and marching events during Pelita Maslaut Sdn Bhd 3rd Sports Carnival held recently.
Its managing director Masni Amit said apart from winning both events, Miri and Sabah also shared the championship title in football event.
According to him, the competition was participated by about 100 Pelita Maslaut trainees from Sibu, Kota Kinabalu and Miri which was also host of the sports carnival.
“The competition received encouraging response from over 100 trainees who converged in Miri for the carnival.
“We are planning to hold the next sports carnival in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, next year, as so far we have only held this carnival in Sibu and Miri,” he said.
He added that the request for the festival to be held in Sabah was suggested by Datin Donna Ontol from Sabah Planning Unit Division.
“She saw the carnival’s encouraging response while it was held in Sibu and Miri. Because of that, she suggested that the carnival be held outside Sarawak and to allow it to be hosted by Sabah in 2014,” he disclosed.
He said the carnival helps foster closer relationship among trainees and facilitators as well as promote healthy sport activities.
“We urged our trainees to be active in sport as it not only keeps their mind and physique in shape, but it also provides opportunity for them to exercise team spirit.
“This will help them to focus on their studies while in our academy, thus obtaining good academic results,” he added.
