Customs officer killed in Keningau collision

KENINGAU: A 25-year-old Customs Department officer who was riding a motorcycle in a convoy with three friends from Labuan was killed in a road accident at Km 22Keningau-Sook road on Sunday.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Robert Salisip @ David said yesterday that the victim was identified as Lawrence Ak Maring, an officer of the Labuan Customs Department.

He said Lawrence was riding his motorcycle when he collided with a four-wheel drive around 1pm on Sunday.

Lawrence was heading towards Keningau from Sook while the four-wheel drive vehicle was coming from the opposite direction.

He said the victim entered the right lane after apparently losing control of the bike and collided with the four-wheel-drive.

His body was taken to the Keningau Hospital for a post-mortem.

The accident was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
