KOTA KINABALU: A cyclist died after he was knocked down by a cement truck along the Kolombong-Tuaran road here yesterday morning.
Heri Bertus Niran, 33, from Indonesia, succumbed to head and body injuries at the scene in the 7.50am incident.
It was believed that the victim was on his way to Likas from Inanam when the truck, which was tailing the victim’s bicycle, turned into a road to Kolombong near Giant Hypermall.
The victim was dragged a couple of meters under the truck, killing him instantly.
It was said that the driver immediately lodged a police report at the nearest police station.
City police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun said the case would be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He said the victim’s body had been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem and he urged eyewitnesses to come forward to assist police in their investigation.
