Local pleads not guilty to bribing DBKK’s agent

KOTA KINABALU: A local man claimed trial at a Sessions Court here yesterday to a charge of bribing an agent of DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd with RM1,000.

Judge Caroline Bee Majanil fixed November 12 this year for the next mention of Fazir Karim Aman Dal’s case after he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Fazir, 47, an owner of a sundry store, allegedly bribed one Zarah Limat as inducement to change the name of a tenant on a lease agreement for a business premises, Kedai Runcit Grace, at Bandaraya (North) Bus Terminal, Inanam.

The alleged offence was committed on February 28, this year at the DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd office, Bandaraya (North) Bus Terminal, Inanam.

The charge under Section 17 (b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, punishable under Section 24 of the same Act, carries a maximum 20 years’ jail and a fine of up to five times the bribe or RM10,000, depending on which is the higher amount, on conviction.

The court released the accused on RM6,000 bail with one local surety.

Prosecuting officer for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Awang Samsul Baharom Bongsu acted for the prosecution while counsel Yong Pei Yi, standing in for Datuk Chau Chin Tang, represented the accused.
