One killed, four injured in Lahad Datu crash

LAHAD DATU: A local woman was killed and four other persons, including the driver, suffered serious injuries after the Perodua Kancil they were travelling in crashed with a Toyota Vigo at Km 14, Jalan Lahad Datu-Tawau on Sunday.

District acting police chief Assistant Superintendent Bong Khuet Khiun said Lailah Binti Hassim, 43, died on the spot.

It was learnt that the Perodua Kancil was heading to Lahad Datu from Tawau, while the Toyota Vigo was coming from the opposite direction when the incident occurred about 4pm.

“Initial investigation found that the Perodua Kancil driver had lost control of the wheel when entering the corner and entered the opposite lane before crashing into the Toyota Vigo.

“The front passenger was killed on the spot while the driver and three other passengers suffered serious injuries,” he said, adding that the Toyota Vigo driver escaped unhurt.

Bong added the case would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
