KUCHING: Nearly 50 per cent of all Australian universities feature in Top 100 ranking lists published by the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings, confirming why Australia is still the preferred choice for Malaysians when choosing overseas higher education.

In fact, several Australian Universities including University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, University of Queensland and the Australian National University are ranked in the top 50 by subject area, proving that when it comes to producing world-class graduate outcomes, Australia is amongst the very best.

According to the latest Australian Education International data, Malaysian students rank fifth for the number of students enrolled in Australian University and other higher education programs so far in 2013.

IDP Education Malaysia’s Country Director Jason Todd explains why Australian higher education continues to be the most popular choice for Malaysian students.

“Having made the important decision to invest in their child’s future by commencing an overseas degree programme, parents want to make sure that the opportunities open to their children will truly be world-class,” said Todd.

Regardless of their chosen field of study, it is critical that when a student graduates their degree is highly valued in their chosen industry, Todd added.

“What the Times Higher Education World University Rankings results show is that Australian universities are amongst the best in the world for producing top graduate outcomes.”

Students consider a range of other issues when finally deciding on their university of choice.

“When I speak to parents and students, one of their most important considerations is how well supported and comfortable the student will be during their studies — because we all know that to do your best in anything, you need the right level of support and the ability to enjoy the experience of being overseas,” said Todd.

“This is what makes Australian institutions such an ideal choice for Malaysians. Australia’s top universities are located in all major Australian cities, offering a wide range of lifestyle options on-campus or off-campus as well as giving parents peace of mind that their children can study near friends and relatives, and be only a few hours away by plane.”

Australia offers international students some of the most generous opportunities for work experience during their study period as well as after they graduate.

“Think of the boost to your resume when you attend that vital first interview, saying you have lived and worked overseas while studying.”

More Malaysian students are currently studying in Australia than any other international destination.
