PUTRAJAYA: The General Police and Special Equipment Exhibitions and Conference Asia 2013 will be a show of the commitment and cooperation by various quarters, locally and abroad, to strengthen the security industry in their respective countries.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the programme, which began yesterday and would end on Oct 4, would be a gathering of security industry players and service providers in the country and abroad.

He said it would be a venue for participating countries to share information on their research and development, and invention of new assets and equipment to meet current needs.

“Therefore, the GPEC 2013 is important not only as a business to business meeting, but it can also foster relations between domestic industry players with principal companies from foreign countries, like Europe, Northern America and China.

“In this matter, we know criminals are becoming more sophisticated and this sophistication has to be countered with more sophisticated equipment and assets by the police and other law enforcement agencies,” he told a media conference after opening GPEC 2013 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here yesterday.

Malaysia, he said, would strengthen the police force with purchase of new asset and equipment, as well as multi-purpose items which could be used and shared by the police and other enforcement agencies under the ministry. — Bernama
