Man jailed for stealing motorcycle

KUCHING: A young man was yesterday sentenced to 18 months’ jail by a magistrates’ court here for motorcycle theft.

Mohamad Syaahir Lemen, 22, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 379A of the Penal Code after he was arrested in his flat at Mile 13, Kuching Serian Road between 7.10am and 7.33am last Sept 22.

According to the facts of the case the complainant who is staying a few blocks from the accused found his motorcycle missing so asked around, including people having a drink at a nearby coffee shop.

One of them said he had seen a man flee with a motorcycle as described by the complainant.

They looked for the suspect and when they found him at a nearby block of flats made a public arrest.

The stolen machine was seized and the complainant notified the police.

Syaahir’s custodial sentence is to take effect immediately.

In the same court room, a labourer was put on parole for two months on RM2,000 bond with one surety after he pleaded guilty to consuming dangerous drugs seven months ago.

Nazif Shaffi, 30, from Kampung Semariang Lot admitted consuming amphetamine and methamphetamine when arrested during a raid of his house at Taman Orchid, Foochow Road at about 12.30pm on March 25.

Nazif was convicted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
