KLUANG: The National Service Training Department (NSTD) will introduce two new sub-modules, Sovereign Malaysia (Malaysia Berdaulat) and Click Wise@NSTD (Klik Bijak@PLKN) at national service training camps from January.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the Sovereign Malaysia Sub-Module was in the Nationhood Module while the Sub-Module Click Wise@NSTD was part of the Character Building Module.

“The introduction of the Sovereign Malaysia Sub-Module was triggered by the terrorist intrusion in Lahad Datu, Sabah,” he told reporters after opening the 1Mindef Carnival here yesterday.

It was aimed at ensuring every Malaysian, specifically from the younger generation, had a high patriotic spirit and understood the foundation of national sovereignty, he said.

Currently, said Hishammuddin,  the sub-module was being implemented as a pilot project at nine NSTD camps in Pahang from August involving 180 trainees.

He said 25 Armed Forces veterans who were bestowed the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (SP) and Panglima Gagah Berani (PGB) medals would share their experiences with NS trainees.

The Click Wise@NSTD Sub-Module would have elements that could teach NS trainees about security, alertness and responsibility when surfing the Internet and using the social media, he said.

“The Sub-Module will enable NS trainees to evaluate and analyse the legitimacy of information found on the Internet and based on the principles of Rukun Negara and in line with the noble values and courtesy campaign,” he said.

The sub-module, according to Hishammuddin, would be introduced to the Series 10/2013 Group 3 trainees through the implementation of the Pilot Project at the seven NSTD Zone C camps in Selangor.

To date, 140 NSTD instructors in Selangor were involved in teaching the Sub-Module, he added. — Bernama
