TAWAU: The Tawau Hospice Association­­­ collected RM56,252 from public donations for the Hospice Cancer Patient Welfare Fund after its launch at Rumah Hospice Tan Sri Lau Gek Poh here on Saturday.

The launching ceremony was followed by a talk on breast cancer which was delivered by Zailani bin Mohd, a specialist from Tawau Hospital.

A Breast, ENT and Sight Clinic for the public was also conducted from 9.30am to 3.00pm by ten specialists and doctors, and assisted by three medical assistants, two audiologists and nine nurses.

Eighty-four women attended the ENT Clinic, 69 attended the Breast Clinic and 73 attended the Sight Clinic.

Datuk Victor Rajasekran, chairman of Tawau Hospice Association, thanked the public for supporting the Hospice Cancer Patient Welfare Fund. The funds will be used to support poor cancer patients living not only in the rural areas but also in the urban areas.

Under the Tawau Home Care Program, 44 cancer patients are being looked after by two full-time nurses.

He thanked the 226 members of the public for attending the ENT, Breast and Sight Clinic held at Rumah Hospice and the Tawau Hospital specialist, doctors, audiologist, nurses and medical assistants who conducted the clinics.

Victor said members of the public were very appreciative of the service given by the medical team from Tawau Hospital.
