TAWAU: Malaysians should support efforts to raise awareness of breast cancer as it is now a major killer among women around the world and discussions of such issue are no longer considered as ‘taboo’.

Sri Tanjong assemblyman Chan Foong Hin said the people should take heed as society in western countries have now opened up the issue in order to raise awareness among women to take early action to detect cancer.

“It can be cured at an early stage and we cannot treat it as shameful matter but rather we need to be very vocal about it,” he said after receiving a visit from members of the district branch of the Kinabalu Pink Ribbon on Monday.

Chan pointed out that not only women can suffer from the disease, it may also affect their loved ones.

He urged the community to support the Awareness Run that is organized by Kinabalu Pink Ribbon on October 19 in front of the Tawau Municipal Council building at 4 pm.

“The Kinabalu Pink Ribbon branch here is raising funds which will be used to help the patients in the district and I urge and encourage the community to assist,” he said, adding that the body also requires volunteers and members to help out.
