DCA urged to conduct thorough investigation

KOTA KINABALU:The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has been urged to carry out a thorough investigation into the cause of the aircraft crash in Kudat yesterday.

Kudat member of parliament Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri in making the call, also said MASwings should also hold responsibility and pay compensation to the damage caused in the incident.

Describing the incident as a “sad tragedy”, Rahim said the Kudat MP office was taking every measure to assist those involved.

“This is indeed a very sad tragedy for Kudat and us all. My condolences go to the family of the deceased passenger, and prayers to the other victims for their speedy recovery,” he said when contacted by the Borneo Post yesterday.

Api-Api assemblywoman Christina Liew also expressed regret over the plane crash and urged the relevant authority to carry out investigation to prevent a repeat of such incident in the future.

“I am also extending condolences to the family members of the deceased and pray for the fast recovery of the survivors,” she said in a text message.

Minister of Special Tasks, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, also expressed deep concern over the incident.

Teo said he was shocked by the incident and conveyed his deepest condolence and concern towards the passenger who was killed, and the pilot, co-pilot and other passengers who were injured.

Teo, who is also Tanjung Kapor assemblyman, was on official duty in Kuala Lumpur when informed of the news yesterday.

He said he had immediately instructed the people development leader in Kudat, Datuk Peter Chin, and his assemblyman office staff to rush to the crash site and Kudat hospital to extend their assistance.

He also urged the relevant authority to investigate the cause of the incident so that preventive measures could be taken to prevent similar occurrence in the future.
