KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines is saddened by the demise of MASWings co-pilot Marc Joel Bansh, 22, and passenger Tan Ah Chai, 69, following the accident involving a MASWings’ Twin Otter DHC6 9M-MDM MH3002 aircraft in Kudat, Sabah yesterday.
Two others were also injured in the accident.
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) in a statement here today said its Group chief executive officer and MASwings chairman Ahmad Jauhari Yahya who arrived in Kota Kinabalu for a press conference last night personally visited the affected passengers at the hospital in Kudat to ensure their well-being were taken care of.
There were 16 people on board the plane, 15 Malaysians and the other a Filipino.
The accident happened in the vicinity of Kudat Airport at 2.50pm. The flight was piloted by Captain Wan Mohd Abd Amir Wan Yahya while Bansh was the co-pilot.
The statement said the Twin-Otter was fit to fly and was in good condition before the accident.
It added that the cause of the accident had yet to be determined and that an investigation was being carried out by the authorities.
“Malaysia Airlines together with MASWings are fully co-operating and assisting the investigation in every possible way.
“Malaysia Airlines is doing everything it can to assist the affected parties in this extremely difficult time,” the statement said.
