KOTA KINABALU: Public transport drivers who have been issued warrants of arrest for failing to pay up their summonses are advised to surrender themselves, otherwise the police will look for them at their homes.

City Traffic and Public Order chief DSP Peter Umbuas said this at the launching of the ticketing booth for Kinabalu Park Car Rental and Bus Operators Association at Bandaran Bus Terminal at the Shangrila Hotel yesterday.

“I just want to remind public transport drivers in the city centre that the police are currently implementing Ops Warta aimed at tracking and arresting drivers of public vehicles who had a warrant of arrest for failing to settle their summonses.

“The drivers must know that the police will try to contact the offenders to invite them to the police station, but if they refuse to come, it will end up with the police coming to their houses to make the arrest,” he said.

Peter said the re-introduction of Ops Warta was made following the continuing rise in the number of fatal accidents in the country.

He also advised members of the Kinabalu Park Car Rental and Bus Operators Association to obey traffic laws at all times to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
