RETURN TO COURT: Tiang being led to the court for mention of his case.

SIBU: A Magistrates’ Court adjourned to Nov 15 the hearing of a murder case involving businessman Tiang Yee Lee who is charged with the killing of his wife and two children yesterday.

Deputy public prosecutor, Franklin Ganggan Bennet, told the court that the case had to be postponed because the prosecution was still waiting for the chemist’s and forensic reports.

Tiang is tentatively charged with killing his wife Ling Yung Ming, son Victor and daughter Christine, and for attempting to murder his eldest son Vincent, and attempting suicide.

The charges are filed under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The attempted murder charge was filed under Section 307 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, or in this case, 20 years for causing hurt to Vincent while trying to kill him.

The attempted suicide was filed under Section 309 Penal Code which carries the maximum one year’s jail, or with a fine, or both.

Tiang reportedly committed the offence at his house in Pulau Li Hua on July 5.

His eldest son, Vincent, survived after escaping to a neighbour’s house.

Tiang then fled in a family car to Bintulu where he was arrested in the evening of the same day. The police found a bottle of weed-killer and a water hose in the car.

The businessman, who was an oil palm site clearing contractor, was said to have taken the family out for a lavish dinner the night before the alleged murder.

When they returned home, he huddled them to a room and gave each of them some sleeping pills.

It is also believed that he was RM3.5 million in debt.
