Salesman faces trial over woman’s death

KOTA KINABALU: A 34-year-old local salesman was charged at a Sessions Court here yesterday with causing the death of a young woman in a Papar village.

Mohd Asmil Abbas pleaded not guilty before judge Ismail Brahim to committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder of the 25-year-old woman at an unnumbered house in Kampung Somboi Kinarut around 5pm on September 1.

The charge under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 30 years and a fine upon conviction.

The court set January 15, 2014 for next mention of the case and released the accused on RM15,000 bail with two local sureties.

Mohd Asmil was also ordered to report to the nearest police station twice a month pending the disposal of his case.

Deputy public prosecutor Nartiah F. Mirchelle Sambatan told the court that the prosecution would produce 10 witnesses to testify against the accused.
