KOTA KINABALU: A local security guard pleaded not guilty in a Sessions Court here yesterday to raping a teenage girl.

Azuan Raim, 28, who was brought before judge Ismail Brahim, was charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

He allegedly raped the girl, aged 14 and seven months, in a car near a river in a Kota Belud village around midnight on September 15.

The judge fixed November 1 this year for next mention of the case and granted Azuan RM10,000 bail with two local sureties.

The unrepresented accused was also ordered to report himself to the nearest police station twice a month pending the disposal of the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Nartiah F. Mirchelle Sambatan appeared for the prosecution.
