Woman killed, four break legs as car collides with two motorbikes

KINABATANGAN: An Indonesian woman died while four other persons, including a baby, suffered broken legs in an accident between a car and two motorcycles at Km 133 off Sandakan-Lahad Datu Bypass around 7.30am yesterday.

District police chief DSP Martin Lugu said the car was coming from the direction of Lahad Datu when it collided head-on with the motorcycles.

It is believed that the car, driven by a local identified as Syahrin Mohd Daud, 28, had entered the opposite lane when the collision occurred, he said.

The first motorcycle to collide with the car was ridden by Andri Piho, 26, his wife Sunarti Hamsa, 24, and their 11- month-old baby girl, Andika Andri.

Sunarti died while Andri broke both legs and the baby broke her right leg.

Samsul Bahari, 26, and Hamsa Bin Bonta, 59, who were riding the other motorcycle also suffered broken legs.

The driver of the car sustained minor injuries on his face and hands.

All the motorcycle riders were Indonesian nationals with valid documents.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987.
