BELURAN: The driver was killed while two passsengers were injured when the lorry they were travelling in overturned and caught fire at Kilometer 65, off Beluran-Telupid Bypass around 1.40am yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Maurice Hiew, 44, who died at the scene, and the two injured were Inuan Latip, 23, and Japur Arip, 24.
According to district police chief DSP Sivanathan Velautham, the three-tonne lorry was traveling from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan and was laden with groceries whent he incident happened.
He said the lorry skidded to the left lane before it overturned and caught fire.
It is believed that the three victims were thrown out of the vehicle, he said, adding that the injured victims were admitted to Beluran Hospital.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
