Lord Tiger stay in charge in basketball league

KUCHING: Lord Tiger remained in the driver’s seat after they recorded their 10th victory in the inaugural Kuching Basketball League by easing to a 74-61 win over bottom team Nemesis last Sunday night.

They were unstoppable in the match that they sunk 11 three-pointers against a hapless Nemesis side. The Tigers led 21-6 in the first quarter and even when they slowed down in the second quarter, they still managed to score 19 points to stay ahead 43-25 at half-time.

In the remaining two quarters, Lord Tiger rested some of their key players and played in a relaxed manner to win the game by 13 points, sending their opponent to their 11th straight defeat in the seven-team league.

With the win, the Tigers have thus far collected 21 points from 10 wins with only one loss after 11 games.

In another match, Aeroport staved off a determined challenge from Efos Kimbay to win 81-72 to record their ninth win and stay in second place with 20 points.

The final match saw Sungai Apong Basketball Association losing 58-67 to Stranger and also the third place in the table standings due to the difference in points scored.

Efos Kimbay are fourth with 15 points while in sixth and seventh place are Samarahan Muara Tuang and Nemesis with 14 and 11 points respectively.

The preliminary rounds of the league ends this Sunday, after which the top four teams will play in the second round, with the top two teams advancing to the final.
