KUCHING: National bodybuilder Buda Anchah expressed optimism for the inaugural Pesta Benak body-building competition in Sri Aman today will be an event to remember.
“This year’s competition is special to me as it was held in my hometown, Sri Aman… I am excited to see many body-building greats from all around the country gather here to compete,” said the Kuala Lumpur based, six-time Mr Malaysia title holder who is in the state to promote the event.
The competition is held in conjunction with the annual Pesta Benak (Tidal Bore Festival).
Apart from the contestants, a few national body-builders from other states had made the journey here to show their support.
Shahrul Mike who is also a national body-builder was excited to see the competition held at a place which he never visited before.
“It is nice to travel to a place which you have never been before… I am sure Sri Aman will be a happening place to be this weekend,” he added.
“To see many gyms being opened here is a positive sign for a start… I am excited just to be here again to see more of what Sarawak can offer,” enthused female national body builder Lilian Tan who was full of praise for the local bodybuilding scene.
Apart from the national athletes, former Malaysian Mr Universe Zetri Munir was also in town to support the event and to Buda who was one of the organising committee members.
Around 50 body-builders are expected to compete in the five categories namely the Malaysia Open, 70kg and above, Sarawak Closed, Sri Aman closed, 70kg and below and Badan Cantik.
Registration cum weight-in will be held in the morning at Jalan Durian from 9am to 11pm on the same day.
