SIBU: Defending champion, V8 FC will take on Kastam in today’s last match of Sibu Football League Cup at Prison Field at 4pm.

Today’s match will be crucial to V8 FC which needed full points in order to salvage its pride and to secure a podium finish as the season draws to an end.

With 23 points in hand, V8 FC is currently fourth in the table standings, could not afford to lose because a win will lift them to the third placing.

Nazario FC, with 30 points in the bag, had already won the league while Mukah Nafas, with 27 points is still sitting precariously in second placing.

However, Kastam, with 25 points, is not going to let slip their chance to secure the maximum three points to overtake Mukah Nafas. Should they win, they will be the first runners-up, a title which the team had gunned for a long time.

Sibu FA secretary Abdul Hajjis Abdullah, when contacted, said the match between V8 FC and Kastam could go right down to the wire and he invited football fans to turn up and watch the event unfolded.

Hajjis said both teams were eyeing for silverware and had been plotting their victory in the past few days.

“Kastam, with several seasoned players from Sarikei, may be a better team on paper and a rung higher in the current table standings but V8 FC, helmed by local Sibu players, is determined to live up to its reputation as one of the tournament favourite,” he said.

“So do expect some bruising encounter when the final match kicks off this afternoon at 4pm,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sibu FA Lea Cup 2013 will kick off on Oct 20 at 3.30pm between Mukah Nafas FC and TZ FC at Prison Field.

All 12 teams in the Sibu League will take part in the FA Cup which will be competed on a single knock-out basis.

Kastam will lock horns with Rimba Hijau on Oct 26, to be followed by the match between Rascom FC versus Nazario FC on Oct 27.

The other matches are between Singgah Selalu FC versus Exodust FC on Nov 2, Police versus V8FC on Nov 3 and DDFC versus Miskal FC on Nov 5.

The final match will be held on Nov 23 at 3pm.
