KUALA LUMPUR: The special committee headed by the Chief Secretary to the Government to investigate and take stern action against errant civil servants will enhance the confidence of the rakyat (people) in the credibility and integrity of the civil service, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The committee was formed as the government viewed seriously the issues highlighted in the 2012 Auditor General’s Report, he said when tabling the 2014 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, said the the Public Service Department (JPA) was investigating and taking action on 100 cases for non-compliance with financial procedures including procurement procedures while 15 cases were under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

To enhance integrity, he said, the government will establish an Integrity Management Unit in each ministry to increase compliance and adherence with established procedures. MACC officers will be represented in the Unit.

Apart from this, he said the Civil Service Transformation Plan will be implemented in every ministry.

“This is important to strengthen and restructure the organisation to remain relevant in line with current developments,” he said. — Bernama
