Special Olympic swimming gala in Miri today

MIRI: Forty seven athletes from four teams will compete in Miri’s Special Olympic swimming meet at the Public Swimming Pool today.

Twelve of the athletes are from Sunflower Centre, 17 from the Special School for Handicapped students of SMK St. Joseph, 13 from SK Jalan Bintang and five from SMK Luak.

They are competing in the 25m Freestyle, 25m breaststroke, 25m walking, 25m floating, 4×25 mixed relay and in the age group of 12 and below, 13-15 years and16 years and above.

The half-day event is jointly organised by Special Olympics Sarawak Miri chapter and state’s Youth and Sports Department (JBS).

The event is also to select representatives for Miri in the coming state-level Special Olympics games on Nov 1 – 3 where 250 athletes from Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Sri Aman and host Miri are taking part.
