Asfia: Don’t presume a walkover in Krian

SIBU: The opposition has been told not to ‘count their chickens before they are hatched’ over their claim on retaining        Krian seat come the next state election.

PBB’s permanent chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said this was because the election was still a while away.

He was commenting on Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How’s boast that BN would have no candidate to contest against PKR and Krian assemblyman Ali Biju and probably would have a walkover win in Krian.

“It is too premature to pass judgement on the situation because the election is still quite a while away.

“In politics, three days is a long time, anything can happen.

“BN is confident that we can win in Krian, whichever component party stands there.

“We can win, God willing,” the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) speaker told The Borneo Post on the sidelines of a wedding reception at RH Hotel here on Saturday.

SPDP lost the seat in the 2011 state election when the then deputy president Datuk Peter Nyarok Entrie was unseated by Ali.

On the opposition spreading its wings to rural areas to establish a support base, Asfia stressed that BN had to seal off these areas.

“At the same time, it is important to launch counter attacks in urban areas as they are not impregnable,” he said, adding that this had always been his stand.

Last week, SPDP deputy secretary-general Paul Igai, reacting to See’s claim, said he was entitled to his version of the story.

But to claim a walkover for any opposition candidate in Krian or any constituency was preposterous, Igai stated.

State BN secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi had earlier assured that PBB would continue to work hard to assist their component party to ensure a BN victory in Krian.
