KOTA KINABALU: Four youths alleged to have been involved in an armed-gang robbery will get their day in court on November 25 this year after the Sessions Court here fixed the trial date yesterday.

Judge Ishak Bakri fixed the date for all the four accused, aged between 14 to 19 years old, after they indicated their intention to plead guilty to the joint charge. However, they denied using a weapon during the alleged offence.

They were charged with robbing a 23-year-old male of his wallet and Sony Xperia handphone while armed with a knife in front of the Centre Point mall here at 11.40pm on October 3, this year with five accomplices who are still at large.

The offence under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code carries a maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment and liable to whipping, on conviction.

Ishak also ordered all the four accused to be referred to the Welfare Department for their probation reports.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Azwan Aiman Wan Fakhruddin prosecuted while all four accused were unrepresented.

Meanwhile, magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus sentenced Awang Abdul Malik Awang, Aliyas Yasir, and Ang Seng Hock to two months’ imprisonment for taking syabu.

The trio were arrested on August 2–3 this year for the offence under Section 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a maximum of two years’ jail, upon conviction.
