Woman jailed and fined for cheating seven persons

KOTA KINABALU: A local woman was sentenced to seven years and four months jail for 11 counts of cheating involving a total amount of RM99,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus fined Kee Noorayudah Mohd Ayub, 25,  RM16,500 after she pleaded guilty to all the charges.

On the first case, she was alleged to have induced one Gehinah @ Nazaridah Jalin, 45, to hand over cash amounting to RM8,000, RM6,000 and RM8,000 respectively, on three occasions.

The offences were committed on February 3, 11 and 26 this year at KK Plaza mall, a restaurant in Segama and a restaurant in Asia City respectively, on the pretext of having represented to Gehinah that she was selling a home under the Housing and Town Development Board (LPPB) scheme.

She was jailed for 14 months and fined RM1,500, in default, two months imprisonment, for each offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum of 10 years jail, with whipping and liable to a fine, upon conviction.

For the second charge, she cheated one Daransun @ Duaim Solunda, 54, of RM8,000, RM13,000 and RM23,000, respectively on three occasions using the same mode of operation on February 6, 11 and 26 of this year at a restaurant in Asia City.

For this case, Balitus imposed a 14 months jail sentence and fined her RM1,500, in default, two months jail for each offence.

For the third to seventh cases, she allegedly cheated Yvonne Sipain, 27, of RM8,000, Jumaidah @ Nurul Azyaa, 36, of RM8,000, Md Noor Firdaus Md Tajuddin, 30, of RM8,000, Junity @ Junaiti Waidi, 48, of RM8,000, and Mohd Hashir Alidinshah, 32, of RM1,500 in separate transactions using the same mode of operation between February 3 and September 3 this year at various places in the city.

She was sentenced to one year’s jail for the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh case, and fined RM1,500, in default, two months imprisonment for each offence.

The Court ordered for Kee’s sentences in respect of the first case to run concurrently and for the sentences on the second case to also run concurrently but consecutively with the first case, and for all sentences in respect of the third to seventh cases to run consecutively.

Inspector Azaman Hamat prosecuted in the case while the accused stood unrepresented.
