PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award’s organising committee plans to woo more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to part take in the next award for the 2014/215 cycle.

Advisor to the committee Datuk Kok Wee Kiat said there was plenty of room for SMEs to catch up in terms of involvement especially from SMEs in the construction industry.

“We view the sustainable and consistent practices by the construction industry will go a long way to prevent disasters, preserve properties and quality of life,” he said at the award sponsors cheque presentation yesterday, witnessed by Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G Palanivel.

The 2012/2013 award has attracted 44 entries which are mainly by multinational companies.

Kok also said the committee has launched a new award category called “Environmental Journalism” to be awarded to the print media organisations that have made major contributions towards the understanding of environmental sustainability. — Bernama
