Ex-state secretary ‘Tokoh Maal Hijrah’

SIBU: Former state secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Hussain has been named the ‘Tokoh Maal Hijrah’ (Maal Hijrah Special Prominent Figure) during the state-level celebration held at Sibu Civic Centre here yesterday.

With the accolade, Abdul Aziz, 63, took home RM10,000 from the Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin.

Born on July 18, 1950 in Kuching, Abdul Aziz was a graduate of Syracuse University in New York, USA with a bachelor degree in financial studies.

He started to serve in the state civil service in 1973 as temporary officer and continued his service in various departments
and ministries until he was appointed as the State Secretary in 2000.

He has contributed a lot of ideas, energy, expertise and leadership in development of the Muslims in the state particularly among new converts in rural areas through his active involvement in associations and bodies such as Hikmah, Azam and Perkata.

He was given various recognitions by the state and federal governments for his contribution.

He was awarded the Panglima Setia Mahkota in 2007, Panglima Jasa Negara in 2003 and Datuk Amar Bintang Kenyalang in 2001.
