SMK Bakong adds another feather to cap

BAKONG: SMK Bakong in Beluru here achieved another milestone when its weight-lifting team bagged two golds, two silvers and two bronzes in the ‘Teenagers Weight-Lifting Championship’ in Kuala Lumpur.

The school was represented by Stephen Gasah, St Xavier Hendry, Christopher Merayang, Natasha Amsiah and Macmillan Mansor Daud who also represented the state.

At the handing over ceremony of medals and certificate of participation to the five athletes concerned, SMK Bakong principal Meechang Tuie commended them for making the school proud with their achievement.

“This is a testimony of their dedication and hard work. Consistent trainings are the key to their strength and success to achieve the goal,” he told The Borneo Post recently.

The team was led by Coach Filicia Muyat who was also overjoyed over the achievement.

He said this boosted the reputation of SMK Bakong while also bringing pride to the state.

“I am confident of and contented with the conduct of each athlete,” he added.

On the whole, this projects the seriousness of the school and the state Education Department and the state Sports Council in their preparation for the 2016 Malaysia Sports Carnival, said Muyat who was a former athlete.

The recent competition was organised by Majlis Sukan Putrajaya, and was held at the Compleks Kejiranan Presint 11, Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur.

The SMK Bakong team took part in two categories – Below 13 and Below 16.

Christopher, 16, competed in the ‘Below 16’ category under 85 kg, while the other four competed in the ‘Below 16’ under 56 kg.

Meechang expressed his gratitude to the parents for their continuous support, commitment and cooperation towards their children’s involvement in school activities and sports.

“They are the pillar and foundation of the school’s success both in academics and co-curricular performances,” he concluded.
