KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) in Sabah will continue collaboration with the Indonesian National Police East Kalimantan (POLRI), to strengthen security between both countries.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said with such collaboration, it would intensify security forces in tackling crime involving both countries such as joint patrol operations along Sebatik Island, Tawau, which would be implement next year.

“Such collaborations have actually brought positive impact on both countries in terms of crime cases, for example, if a crime is committed in Sabah and the suspects flee to Indonesia, we will immediately inform our counterparts.

“In addition, we will also inform our neighbouring counterpart if a suspect or suspects from Indonesia are taking refuge in Sabah,” he said at a meeting with the Indonesian National Police East Kalimantan (POLRI) yesterday.

Also present was Chief of Region Police DRS, Dicky Atotoy.

Elaborating further, Hamza said with such collaboration, the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP), which includes land and sea, would be shared between both security forces.

Meanwhile, Hamza said in the first 10 months of this year, the number of Indonesians arrested for criminal offences in Sabah had dropped to about 10 per cent or 176 arrests made as compared to the previous year.

“Statistic shows that between January and October this year, 2,115 criminals had been arrested and from the figure, 176 are Indonesians,” he said.
