Motorcyclist dies in hospital after crash

PUTATAN: A motorcyclist died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after he was involved in an accident along the Papar-Kota Kinabalu road, near Kampung Meruntum at noon on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old victim, Azlie Awang Jali, lost control of his machine and rammed into the rear of a Perodua Viva.

He died at the QEH while receiving treatment for severe head and body injuries.

It was believed that prior to the incident, Azlie was heading to the state capital from Sabindo when he lost control of his motorcycle that knocked into the rear of the Perodua Viva that was driven by a 25-year-old man.

Meanwhile, Penampang police chief DSP Ratan Kumar Singh yesterday confirmed the incident and said the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He said the driver of the Perodua Viva escaped unhurt. He also urged an eyewitness to come forward to assist police in their investigation.
