The Sustainability Achieved Via Energy Efficient (SAVE) programme has succeeded in cutting RM64.1 million of the overall cost for three electrical equipment – refrigerator , air conditioner and chiller.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said since its commencement in 2011, efforts to encourage the use of the five-star rating energy-efficient equipment, had also saved 246.4 GigaWatt hours(GWh) of electricity.

“The emission of carbon dioxide has also been reduced by 167.6 million kg,” he said in a written reply to Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (BN-Masjid Tanah) at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here yesterday.

Ongkili said the SAVE programme had also saw the energy-efficient equipment having the market share of 40.8 percent for refrigerator, air-conditioner (21.6 per cent) and chiller (39.2 per cent) as at Dec 31, 2012, compared to the original targets of 25 per cent for refrigerator, air-conditioner (20 per cent) and chiller (39 per cent).

He said consumers and manufacturers of electrical equipment alike had clearly given positive response to the programme.

“Seventeen brands of air-conditioner and 16 brands of five-star refrigerator have entered the market after the programme was launched, compared to only six brands previously,” he added. — Bernama
