KAPIT: Twenty four teams are in the fray for Kapit’s Resident Futsal Challenge Cup from Nov 11-20 at Bletih Indoor Stadium.

Five of the teams are competing in the women’s category and representing state and federal departments.

“The event was initiated by former Kapit Resident Dahim Nadot. The competition is open to all government departments and statutory bodies to serve as a venue for civil servants to interact to promote friendship and understanding and to establish closer rapport,” Kapit’s deputy Resident (social development) Zul Usop told a press conference yesterday.

“It’s hoped that active participation in outdoor sports will inculcate a healthy lifestyle during the leisure hours after office work. At the same time, it will be early preparation to select the Kapit Division Maksak players for the 2014 Inter-Division Maksak Futsal competition,” he said.

The competition is organised by Kapit’s Maksak club with assistance from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Bank Rakyat Kapit.

Kapit District Council (KDC) was last year’s champion.
